Cantina Grill - Tres Pinos, Ca

The Cantina is back! I went to the 19th Hole last week with my Dad and brother and as we passed by the Cantina it was packed! This spurred an interest in me and I just had to check it out myself. Before making any plans I did some research and I found out it was not the usual Mexican food but CAJUN! Upon hearing that I was pumped. I called my girl friends and asked if they were down to go try out the restaurant with me. Girl's Night Out! Wahoooo... We drove on down to 6971 Airline Highway and were excited for what we were about to try!

As you can see by the entry way they are doing things a little different at the Cantina now. Upon arrival you are greeted by a hostess who places beads over your head! It is a really fun way to start off your evening. Made me feel like I am about to celebrate Mardi Gras!

We sat down at a table by the window and a fabulous waitress that we all know by name - Suzi, took our drink order. She has won many awards for Best Waitress among the County so I just knew we were going to get the best service. Instead of my usual favorite of chips and salsa we were treated with a basket of hush puppies, jalapeno cornbread and a honey butter. Great little munchies. We were really getting into the Spirit of the South. Our beverages included Hurricanes and myself, a Mojito. The Hurricane is an extremely sweet alcoholic drink made from lime juice, passion fruit syrup and rum. It is one of many popular drinks served in New Orleans.

The menu is alot of fun! The appetizer menu has Lollipop Chicken Wings, Popcorn Shrimp and so much more including my favorite: Crab Cakes! You know I could not pass those up! As my entree the cute little cakes were not the best I ever had, but they still hit the spot. The presentation was on point - beautiful plate. Next up was Allison's Shrimp Fettuccine with Alfredo Sauce. The plate looked just amazing. She thought the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the portion size so large we took half home for her boyfriend. Next up was Nina's order of Macaroni and Cheese. She loved the little noodles so much, very comforting. We saw the Sweet Potato Pie on the dessert menu and just had to have it. Boy are we glad we did it was great. My mom makes the best pies and this was a close second - this should be taken as a huge compliment! Very impressed. The rest of the menu needs multiple visits to be fully explored. There are Jambalaya, Gumbo and Crayfish Etouffee dishes that I still need to try!

All in all the three of us were very satisfied. We took our time sipping drinks, enjoying our food and catching up on each others lives. We felt completely comfortable laughing out loud and lingering in the restaurant. The service was on point, the presentation beautiful and atmosphere welcoming. The uniqueness of the menu should allow this place to be successful. It is so different, and so much fun! I recommend anyone and everyone to give this restaurant a shot. Do not assume it is the same old menu - it is new! The sign out front says they are open 7 days a week, opening doors at 11am each day. Wow! I give it an official 1.625 thumbs and wish them all the best. You will find me there again.
