Scott and I caravanned home yesterday from the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Futurity and decided a stop at a restaurant that I had never been to before was just what we both needed. I have heard all about the Hitching Post from not only Scott but from the movie, "Sideways".
Upon sitting at our table we were greeted with a relish tray to munch on while we browsed our menus. I ate most of the pickles, peppers and one radish.
Our table was right by the windowed grill, I asked the chef to smile for me and he did just so. It was like dinner and entertainment to be seated watching all the action in the kitchen.
Scott has raved about the Grilled Artichokes served here for as long as I have known him. They are pre-cooked but then heated on the grill and dusted with "Magic Dust" before being served with spicy, smoked tomato mayonnaise. It was outstanding.
Your basic dinner salad came with our entrees and it was just fine.
The plate looks very simple but the taste was out of this world. I ordered a 5 ounce Filet Mignon and it was just the perfect amount. Cooked to a perfect medium rare and tender as all get out. The baked potato drenched in butter and sour cream was my perfect version of a manly meal.
Scott ordered the New York with his sides of french fries. I sampled the fries because they too were seasoned with the "Magic Dust"- I am not sure what the dust is but it sure makes things very tasty! Scott enjoyed his steak with the salsa made by the house.
I am happy that I finally got to experience a meal at the legendary Hitching Post. I am a fan of anything Santa Maria style BBQ so it really was a treat. Now that the PCCHA Futurity season is over, we can relax for maybe 30 seconds before starting all over and prepping the babies for 2013!
