I love a good authentic Mexican food place. I mean Tex-Mex is great when I am craving a queso, chips and a swirl but when I want to get down on some authentic food I search for these types of places. This taqueria used to be a liqueur store at 1215 Mineral Wells Highway. On a Saturday morning after doing all our chores and riding early to beat the heat we decided to give this place a try because it was on my "list'.
Scott Good Taste went for the Carne Asada Taco Plate. He liked it. There is a little fridge that houses all levels of spicy salsa and settled on the green version. The meat was very well seasoned and the rice and beans were very good. If you want to try this place this is a very good entry level plate.
Here comes Melissa Good Taste's order... POZOLE!
This is her all dressed up with all the toppings! I love pozole. It is comforting, filling and a texture explosion. I loved everything. The broth was good, meat was tender and flavorful - however they contained bones - I didn't love that, spitting out the bones is just not my jam. One other thing, I wish it was served with tostadas. I like the extra crunch!
This restaurant was clean, affordable and service straight to the point - which I love. Would I return? Yes, of course. I hope the weather cools off so I can really enjoy a hot bowl of soup soon. What is also really cool about this spot is it is also a meat market, grocery store and they serve Mexican pastries which Scott and I picked up a variety of - my favorite was the Hostess Cupcake look-a-like. It was filled with cream and totally delicious.
